3 Bklyn Furniture Stores, Each Worth Frequenting

November 14th, 2011 · 1 Comment

If you’re in the market for antique-style furniture (with a modern slant), reclaimed wooden tables and custom built pieces, let me call your attention to three spots about town which you’ll want to make part of your shopping itinerary.  First up: From the Source.  I’d heard about the establishment from a friend who’d purchased some customized stools designed by the From-The-Source specialists, and, impressed with the finished products, I recently popped into the works to see how the sausage is made, so to speak.  The massive warehouse is located at 69 West Street, in Greenpoint Brooklyn; here, the enterprising and environmentally-conscious manufacturers use sustainable materials such as reclaimed teak, driftwood, mahogany, ironwood railroad ties, iron (the list goes on), and in doing so fashion modern twists on rustic standards, resourcefully intermingling the best of both aesthetics.  You can select preferred materials and specify the exact dimensions of a planned project; the professionals will assemble it to the letter, as per your instructions, for a comparatively reasonable price (considering the personalized nature of the assignment).  The warehouse itself, it should be reiterated, is huge, and contains within its walls additional scores of already-finished pieces, all distinctive and striking in their own regards.

Second up is A&G Merch, located on North 6th Street near Berry Street, in Williamsburg.  I myself have made an exciting array of eclectic purchases at this establishment in the past:  glassware, trendy bottle openers, wallpaper, a tall antique wooden lamp and an industrial antique-design wooden console are just a handful of some such examples (many of which can be viewed in earlier posts on the blog).

The store boasts the one of the most complete and varied couch collections that I’ve beheld in some time; scads of side tables, coffee tables, and trinkets only add to the influx of comfortably-priced and attractive goods.  I don’t let myself go more than a month or so without patronizing the store, just to see what new arrivals they’ve laid out in the interim.  In other words, consider A&G Merch a must-visit-location for all your furniture and home-appliance needs and a personal recommendation from a satisfied customer in the know.  Check them out on the web at aandgmerch.com.

Last, but far from least, is The Future Perfect, conveniently situated mere steps from A&G Merch, on the corner of Berry and North 6th Street.  Prices at the Future Perfect have been known to run steep, but their inventory remains so matchless in its breadth and style that I still pop in, from time to time, in spite of those monetary considerations (and, for what it’s worth, I’ll readily admit to buying one rather expensive item on premises: an industrial cog tabletop lamp…very cool I might add).  Inimitable, functional and fashionable items include their aforementioned collection of lamps as well as lights, extensive books of wallpaper, arresting mirrors, decorative accouterments, toys and more.  On the web at: TheFuturePerfect.com
