Surprise, Surprise! Yet again, another failed Williamsburg Condo project – this particular one is located on the corner of Wythe Ave. and North 8th Street. The funny, or I suppose not so funny thing is, I ran into the owner of this building last spring when the building was nearing completion; he quickly brushed me off, telling me that this building was being built for a single family. Roughly 8 months later the condos were available as overpriced rentals…..shockingly, the 5 floors now sit there as vacant space. In any case, while scoping the area out the other day, I noticed a new storefront had gone up, directly across the street from the above property. It’s a bakery, aptly named Bakeri.

Although the name lacks some creativity, I’ll look past it because the place is sick, and by sick, I mean sickly delicious. The menu includes a variety of tasty treats, perfectly suitable for fulfilling the locals proclivity for quality sweets. Lavender shortbread, hazelnut cookies, and bread pudding are just a few of Bakeri’s specialties. I opted for the coconut plum cake, and nearly popped my top. So. Flipping. Good. The average price of $2.50 per pastry didn’t hurt my feelings either. All in all, I give them an A-. Great service, quirky/ornate décor, and most importantly delicious treats qualify this for my list of worthy Williamsburg go-to’s.
